How to Make a 5-Gallon Water Jug Look Better at Home

A blue 5-gallon jug is useful, but it rarely suits a kitchen. You do not have to hide it completely. A few small choices can make a water corner look planned rather than left over.

Pick one spot and keep everything there

A jug looks most out of place when it wanders. Choose one corner, and keep your spare jugs, cups and filters together. Avoid direct sun and heat, and make sure the floor can take the weight. Water weighs about 8.3 lb per gallon, so a full 5-gallon jug is about 42 lb.

Give spare jugs a proper stand

Most of the clutter comes from the spare jugs on the floor. A stand lifts them off the floor and lines them up. The PIEMODA 4-Tier Water Jug Holder stores four jugs on their sides in a slim steel frame, with a flat top for cups, filters or a plant. Each tier supports up to 44 lb, and an optional wall anchor is included for extra stability.

Cover the part you notice first

The cap is often the first thing you see on a water jug. A silicone jug cover slips over it and adds a little color. It is an easy way to tie the jug to the rest of the room, and it is dishwasher-safe.

Match the corner to the room

Before you buy anything

Measure your corner, and allow room to lift a full jug in and out. Full jugs are heavy, so think about who will be lifting them and how high. Keep the heavier jugs low, and use the wall anchor if children or pets could bump the stand.
